The plans change

Confirmation came this week that the ferry company we had booked on to cross the Channel has not found a buyer to rescue them and gone into liquidation.

Like many others, we had a block of tickets, which we had bought to save money on crossings. Speed Ferries were only a small operator compared with the longer established bigger ferry companies. They only had one boat, but they offered good prices whether you were crossing for the day or staying for two weeks.
Unlike the other companies who would sell you a day return ticket for £50, a weekend ticket for £100 and anything longer for £200; Speed Ferries sold bulk tickets at around £25 a crossing.
They were cheap and cheerful, and much loved by those who had traveled with them over past four years.

So now we are booked on SeaFrance - earlier departure, so we should get near Macon by Tuesday night.
