The end of day one

The rain stopped enough for a walk in town and down to the harbour. Below is the view back up into the town with our house at the highest point in the centre. 75 metres above sea level

I think the townsfolk of Peschici are aware of us now after 4 shopping trips with varying degrees of success.

I made the mistake of assuming the 24/7 internet access was wireless. It's not. The owners of the house have been great and supplied me with a wireless router from another of their homes. Trouble is, it's one of the ones pre-programmed by the supplier and 192.168.1.1 gets me in to change everything apart from ADSL log in details.

So first trip to the local electrics shop - that seems to have everything including the new iPhone for 599 euros - do you have a long ethernet cable -10 metres to reach downstairs - no
Back again to get a plug adaptor - no.
3rd time to get a phone extension cable - no

But , we are up and running downstairs in the kitchen/dining room where it is much warmer and we can listen to the BBC and watch UK TV on the slingbox

It does mean that my super wifi skype phone doesn't work - so if you call and get the answerphone, leave a message and we'll get back as soon as we can.

Thanks for all the email comments - you can also leave them on the blog if you wish.

The local wine is good, the fruit and veg are so fresh and we watched a butcher slice two great pork chops off the carcase today. Something you rarely see in the UK. Must admit though that it's no cheaper than the UK, especially with the euro at parity.

Tomoorow the big street market and hopefully some sunshine.
